Gas piping work in Texas is regulated, and for good reason — an improperly sealed fitting or an under-sized line isn't just an inconvenience, it's a real safety risk. Every gas line installed or repaired is pressure-tested before it's put into service, and permitting is handled as required for the scope of work. This isn't a job for a general handyman, and it isn't one to cut corners on to save time.
Outdoor gas runs have become especially common as Sugar Land's newer communities build out outdoor kitchens and fire features — if you're adding one to your backyard, plan for the gas line as part of the project from the start rather than an afterthought.
The classic sign is a sulfur or "rotten egg" smell (added intentionally to natural gas so leaks are detectable), a hissing sound near a gas line or appliance, or dead vegetation over a buried line. If you notice any of these, leave the area and call your gas utility before calling us.
